This got brought up in a conversation with

bsg_slashathon almost a month ago. She commanded me to do it. I am eternally seven, so I did.
I highly suspect she was kidding, and will not in fact declare me, quote, "Captain Awesomesauce, Queen of the Horny Bastards", unquote, and is far more likely to simply declare me frakkin' insane and call

Sam's forthrightness and stubbornness and his ability to be game for all kinds of crazyass bullshit seems to dispose him to a relationship with Gaius in ways I hadn't anticipated. And we all know Gaius will eat up attention from anybody attractive who will give it to him, especially under these circumstances, where he's justifiably miserable and lonely ( ... )

It almost disturbed me how relatively easy it was to (to make a gross oversimplification) make Gaius into Kara. Sam likes the damaged ones, no? Or maybe they're just drawn to him. But then, he's a good rock to cling to, so I suppose that makes sense. And yeah, I might've had a little too fun with their interplay (what probably should have been a nice PWP drabble turned into this 3000+ word thing, with plot!), but it was hard not to considering, well, it really does boil down to a jock dating a science geek. (It was the hardest trying to find Gaius' role in the dynamic, actually, because I realized how staggeringly out of place he'd be with the ( ... )

The ending breaks my heart, and does make me wonder what would happen in this situation...
It's certainly worth thinking about it, isn't it? Who knows; if I get bored, I might follow up on it.

And I love your Sue-Shaun! So blunt and awesome. :D
"Only you could find such a fancy way of saying 'I’m getting sick of jerking myself off'."
I LOL'd.
And oh my god, you ended up at the end of "The Farm" with both of them. *snugs* I love it.

Sue-Shaun, if memory serves, is the one who said to Kara Thrace "Give me a ball, little girl, and I will shove it so far up your ass." ...I think we can imagine what her reaction to Gaius doing his usual thing would be.

Ha! That ending sort of snuck up on me. Originally I was just sort of going to plateau it, with the sort of implication that they lived happily-as-ever-possible on irradiated Caprica together, but then I figured it should connect back to canon somehow. Et voila! History is effectively rewritten, with the line "Tonight the part of Kara Thrace will be played by Gaius Baltar" added to the back of the program ;)

Glad you liked the story, although it saddens me a little that I apparantly wasn't able to make the pairing "buyable" for you (maybe next time...)

This was so much fun! Yeah, I know it's improbable, but I was totally willing to suspend my disbelief, because well...at first it was because they were such a hysterically mismatched pair of buddies, never mind couple. And Sue-Shaun's constant calling attention to Baltar as the fish out of water was amusing.
Then after a while I got into the slow buildup to the pairing. You did a good job of making Gaius seem more early-era Baltar. I liked that - the way he scoffed at the idea of joining at the raids; the way he's still so soft and so wordy; the way he calls Anders "Samuel". You really made him sound like the Baltar that was trapped on Kobol with Crashdown and Co. Even at the end of the story, he has that early-era Baltar innocence about the world when he's all 'as if the military would just leave you guys here to rot once they knew you were alive ( ... )

I'm glad that the build-up and the relationship dynamic worked for you, with Sam as the rock and Gaius as...well, the guy he was back in the miniseries, before he wound up on Galactica where everyone's so goddamn hardcore it rubs off after awhile.
Oh, and speaking of Kara, random lolz at how you have both him and his boyfriend eyeing Kara.
Well, they do both sleep with her, in canon.
Their first sex scene was alternately hilarious and cute, and kind of poignant, even. I like how you have Sam slowly seduce Baltar into the kissing, and the descriptions are beautiful.
Yeah, that first one was a little tricky to write, since apparantly being stranded on irradiated Caprica kills all of Gaius' interest in foreplay, while Sam's still kind of a groper. So that one took some figuring. Good to hear it works, though.
But anyway, thank you again for reading my crazy crazy pairing-ness, and for commenting, and I hope you enjoyed.
