well a friend of mine told me that one of things he did for himself to occupy the new amt of time he found himself with was to persue any hobbies or adventures that he hadn't tried before. this made a lot of sense to me, except i have one big problem and that is i have no idea of what new things to persue. there are so many options that none stand ( Read more... )

Well you gotta figure what you like, dude.

For me, it'd be photography. With the exception of the inital cost of a camera (you don't need top of the line, and point and shoots will suffice until you feel ready to go w/ an slr), it's an inexpensive hobby that you can get very good at. Hell, if you get good enough, it's something you can make money on.

But I digress, you can travel on your own, and by that I don't necessarily mean fill the car up w/ gas and go long distances. You can actually just drive 5 miles one way, take a walk and find all manner of neat shit to photograph, especially if you're like me and like to take nature shots. Now that most folks have digital cameras, you don't need to go thru the expense of processing film and printing them out.

Anywho, there's my recommendation. I'm hoping to get enough in gift cards for xmas to get myself a Nikon D40. Then the hobby can get expensive in the different lenses that are available, all of which I can take my time and get as I need.

that's the thing, i'm finding that i don't really like a lot of things, pr perhaps rather there are a lot of things out there i don't even know about that might actually be appealing to me, so that's why i'm asking people to just name some ideas, which u just did which i appreciate ^_^

I have the same problem.

I like video games. Bad hobby.

But I do also like photography, and singing. I would take lessons for both if I had spending money. I also like dancing, but meh there's the money issue. DDR is nice for that but I keep busting my knee.

I mainly just play games for my hobby. You could try other gaming not video related; D&D and the like. Find a local game shop and see if theres anything there for you.

What Stewie said; we've got a weekly D&D group, you're always welcome to hop in.

Ever tried your hand at paintball ? It's pretty fun, and a good workout.
