Star Wars X-Wing - My Kind of Wargame

On Friday, Liam popped in and we played a game of X Wing - Fantasy Flight Games' starship combat game. Although I had no luck for the most part in rolling the defence dice, the session just reinforced how much fun, and just how great, this game is. Why you ask?

First I've heard of it! Do you get all those ships in the core set? Or are their expansions you've purchased?

Hey!

No, I've gone a bit crazy with the expansions. The core set is 1 X Wing and 2 Tie Fighters. As with all FFG games, however, the box is full of cards, tokens and all the bits you need to play. The exapansions are the same high quality.

One really neat point is that everything is in scale. So the X Wings are about 5cm in length while the Falcon is about 35-40!!!

I've probably plunked down $300 on it to get that collection, but to be honest I don't think you'd ever get that many ships on the table at once.

The really cool thing with the next wave of ships is that that are going into the EU with the Moldy Crow (Kyle Katarn's first ship)! So the sky's the limit.

Unfortunately nothing bigger than Falcon planned (they had production issues on that), plus which at this scale even a corvette would be the size of the playing surface :P
