Die Six - Revision Time and thoughts on the WHRPG system

My only concern in using a WFRP style career system is that it does import quite a bit of setting conceits into the game. If Die Six is intended to be a generic fantasy game then each time you make a decision on a career you move one step away from that.

The rest can be used without issue though.

Oh, I'm more interested in the way the career both governs starting abilities, as well as guides later character progression. Further, its structure/naming conventions gives you a feeling of real development, even if statistically the advantages from one career to another isn't that great.

In Die Six the backgrounds/careers will be a lot more generic (barbarian, squire, rogue, apprentice mage, initiate priest, etc. )

Cool.

Broadening the careers would help but you would also need to keep an eye on Entries/Exits, Trappings and even Skills/Talents. All of these things provide a picture of how the "setting" operates which may limit a more generic fantasy RPG.
