So I Did It

Sep 11, 2013 22:47

I have posted my Thorin/Kili fic and am currently waiting for flame or whatever (or maybe I've been to ONTD too much. Despite all those SJWs and their SJ entries, many of them sure don't understand the concept of YKINMK). I now also have an AO3 account. So far there's only that one Hobbit fic since I'm not sure about dumping my other fics there. ( Read more... )

The interesting thing about the ao3/ffnet divide is that it seems all rather dependent on the fandoms. In general, due to the kudo option I think people tend to review less, and with hobbit fandom in particular most Mary Sue fics appear to be up on ffnet - so maybe the crowd at ffnet is a bit younger? Idk.

On the other hand, I find the tagging and categories on ao3 make filtering difficult - but well...

And with those lovely SJWs - they do usually have a fair cause, but sometimes I find they come across rather high handed (there was something on ffrants recently on tagging where interests clashed).

Yeah, I notice that most hobbit fics in ffnet involve Mary Sues. Is that Hobbit section of ffnet active? Because usually people avoid Mary Sues. And, yes, it was fun reading the tags in AO3 but searching could be difficult (and tagging is confusing, but maybe that's because I'm still not used to it).

I no longer watch ffrant. It gets repetitive and annoying after a while. What did it say?

SJWs make me feel a bit guilty for having unusual kinks. I was for a long time terrified to post that one fic because a few months ago people in a hobbit forum basically mocked and condemned incest fics and people with unusual sex lives.

I have no idea what's going on, but apparently Mary Sues are being read. At least those fics apparently get reviews. O.o Anyhow, what hobbit forums do you have on hand? I've only kept my eyes on the kink meme, but there isn't much happening there right now.

The ffrant thing was somebody complaining about rape being treated flippantly in summaries and tags, but phrased it a bit odd, so people thought they were kink shaming. Which evolved into a discussion of how certain kinks may or may actually not be ok (ie shota). The SWJ fraction came out strong on both sides, but I think people sometimes forget that their moral values are not necessarily globally valid.

Really? That's surprising! I guess younger audience like that? Back then everybody ran away at the mention of Mary Sue. I'm usually on ONTD (and its many incarnations) for Hobbit news and random entertainment discussions. And yeah I've noticed that kink meme is kind of quiet nowadays. Maybe it'll become active again after the second movie ( ... )

Scary. I was so scared when I posted in the Stony fandom the first time. Things went pretty well, until suddenly a lot of people started complaining about things not being accurate and me not being very good at writing certain characters. People on ao3 are critical and they are not being very nice about it. I hope you don't get flamed. I'm not really a Thorin/Kili fan, so I won't read it, sorry!

There is no PoT fandom on ao3 as far as I know. No TezuFuji people, that's for sure. So I post those things on ff.net and move my stony fics to ao3, since that fandom is happening there.

Really? I don't read other fics' comments so I don't know. I hope it's a fandom thing. I am scared because many hobbit authors are total nerds in general. Not only about Tolkien but also general things like culture, politics, economics, etc. I'm just a casual fan and it terrifies that I'm not good enough for the fandom >.< Don't worry, I won't force you to read it. It's just for my own amusement ^^

Actually I found a PoT section the other day, but idk how active it is. There's a bit of TeFu, too, but I don't think it's the biggest ship there.

I hope so, but it still sucks. I just wrote a fun story to get rid of my boredome at work and decided to post it. The setting was a hospital. I've never been in a hospital in my life. Someone started complaining that it wasn't accurate >_< Of course it's not, I didn't write it to be super accurate. I'm not a doctor!
So I hope the Tolkien fandom is less annoying and read just for fun too.

I once posted a TezuFuji fic, but only like 10 people read it or something. So I guess there are a few.

Yeah, some people write for fun, to get things out of their system, not to create some literary masterpiece. It's kind of annoying when people expect everything to be perfect >.<

Hmm. I won't dump my fics there, then. Or at least just one or two then let them check LJ for the rest.
