Batman's Sidekick Robin Gets His Own TV Show

Okay, we love Dick - this will be great.

But...

The Graysons will explore Robin's alter-ego Dick 'DJ' Grayson before he paired up with the caped crusader.

Um...what? Yes, we like Smallville, but Dick has no powers! He was not a crime-fighting circus boy! He was a trapeze artist!

The mind boggles.

I'd love a show about Dick, but let's face it, considering how they messed with the Superman mythos on Smallville, I shudder to think of what they might do to Dick! They're already changed his name.

Changed his name? I suppose it should be 'RJ' if anything...though why they can't just call him Dick, I don't know.

He's proud of that name and he welcomesdisregards the sexual connotations!

Alvin posted about this on my facebook.

Bad times. I love my Dick (boom boom!) but really, no.
a) He became Robin at age 8/9/10/12.
b) How many circus storylines can you do before you start plagiarising Enid Blyton?
c) DJ? DJ?!

Oh, and will you bastard article-writing people use a picture of Dick, not Tim. Please. That's two articles I've seen now and they both have Tim.

Here is a link to the other article, with a little more information.

Of course, I'll blatantly watch it...

They're basically idiots who think that you can't have a character called Dick. Well, suck it up, cos that's his name, bastards!

I thought it was Tim! Huw has bought Batman: TAS and I was watching the first Robin episode, going 'Looks like Tim, but it must be Dick, right?'. Nobody feels the love of the short-shorts. :(

In the one-hour "Graysons," which will be set in modern times, young DJ will face challenges involving first loves, young rivals and his family as he grows up.

So...basically, they want a new kids/teen show with a pre-sold franchise. They're basically just taking the name of Dick Grayson, putting him in a circus and making stuff up! FFS!

DJ is not a good name. For one thing, if you read out the names it stands for you get 'Dick John' which sounds worse.

And it's not like there're any classic supporting cast who've lasted in current continuity like there is with Smallville (Lex, Lana, Lois and Pete Ross to name but a few). It'll be Dick (DICK, damnit), his parents (who we know will eventually die) and some clowns. Whoop.

And yes, clearly Tim. *rolls eyes* In the comics, if Robin's wearing tights, it's Tim (unless it's Steph, and I imagine you can work that one out). In TAS, green tights are Dick. Red tights are Tim. Mullet is Nightwing (woot!). Oh, and in Teen Titans it's Dick, though they never actually say. But it is. There's a brief blink-n-you-miss-it shot of falling aerialists. And his version of Mr. Mxy*keyboard mash* is originally called Nosyarg Kcid.
*puts away geek hat*

Gah. Silly telly people. Get off your arses and make Preacher already!

I know! They can't accept that there's actually a boy who goes by the name of Dick and likes it!

How are you, hon?

I'd rather have a Nightwing show. Young, pre-Robin Dick isn't all that interesting. Sure, his childhood helped him not be mini-Batman, but it was his parents' death and meeting Batman that really made him who he is. Plus, pre-adolescent or young teen in tights isn't nearly as enjoyable to watch as a hot 20-something in tights.

Mmm, Nightwing.

I thoroughly endorse this opinion.
Hot man in tights now please.

And yes, a Nightwing show would be far more interesting. It might, shock horror, get more people to buy the comic. And then they'd have to keep decent writers on it.

Now, Freefall was a good arc. However, now Dick is back to doing what he does best in crossovers - bleeding all over Alfred. *sigh*

Not that I'm anti-h/c, obviously, but usually Bruce is off doing something heroic/stupid/both and can't take care of him.

Now, a Nightwing show would be awesome. You have a guy who's 18/19 breaking away from mentor and seeking his fortune - in tight spandex! I mean, what's not to love? you can have heroes dropping by, the shadow of Batman (who everyone is crazy about because of TDK), familiar Bat villains, new villains, and all of that stuff about him forging out on his own, becoming a police officer and getting laid. A lot.

It has the added bonus effect of me not feeling like a pervert, because obviously anyone cast as Dick has to be beautiful and, pre-Robin, underage. *sigh*
