I got nostalgic and went looking for KHR fic. You know what's hilarious? That I just found out there's more than one of them with "mafia AU" in the summary. Oh, KHR.

Less under the category of "nostalgia" and more "It's about time", I'm rereading Queen of Attolia. I must have been skimming furiously on the first go, because I completely forgot

if Gen had spent the rest of his life hanging around temples whining it would have served the gods right!
The great thing is that I can almost imagine this. Or at least, that he would have given it a shot for about a month. When he puts his mind to it he can be so melodramatic!

Though I think we don't completely agree how much the whole thing is Gen's own fault. xD )
I think we do a little bit. It's awful that he got hurt that badly, but well, what do you expect when you go around taunting an unstable monarch with sly spy-games... Although I do feel a whole lot more sympathy for him this time, possibly also because of reading a bit slower and taking everything in.

I was also spoilered for Gen's injury before reading the book, so that might also have helped me find sympathy for Attolia? I knew the worst, so it didn't seem as bad to me as it might have if I just went in with no foreknowledge.

They weren't actually that interesting, so I didn't save the links. A good amount of metisket's fic probably counts as mafia AU, if you haven't already read those?

I was vaguely confused during that conversation, actually. The whole Trolling From The Great Beyond bit just slipped me by! it makes me like the gods of the Queen's Thief-verse a lot, though.

I just can't handle the more 8059-ish ones because I'm weak like that.
I knoooooow! It made me feel petty but I always got annoyed with the 8059 getting tossed in the background of most of the fics. It's just. my anti-pairing. /whining

Unfortunately some of their motives in The Queen of Attolia totally went over my head the first time I read the book because I was hysterical over Gen losing a hand throughout reading the whole book, haha.
Ha, it was a huge game-changer between the first two books, that's completely understandable. I'm still not sure I get the gods' motivation anyway, but I kinda like that. Gods should be a little inscrutable, you know? PS, what's the other book series you're getting into?

Yuletide should come twice a year. Sometimes you just don't feel like it or have the time when it comes around, and then a couple of months it's all ':( but my small fandoms, they need some love'.
