Less a review and more an opinion exorcism at this point

thelovemafia asked about my Avengers feelings. The short version is simply ':D', but the longer response doesn't fit in a comment so it can be a post. Chris, don't actually read all this. ( My thoughts, all in a giant blur )

i can't shut up!, fan babble, marvel cinematic universe, omg heart

Loki was ... not quite what I expected. Less in control, I think. But that was also kind of cool and made sense, especially considering he spent a fair amount of time falling screaming through space and then hanging out with aggro bony fish people. (And as an example of the great casting, Tom Hiddleston in the opening scenes - that was definitely a dude who'd be called "liesmith". He talks pretty.)
.... heartmarks at you incessantly. I agree: he was less in control than I imagined he would be, so I have given him the mental shorthand nickname of "brainwashed and crazy Loki".

AGGRO BONY FISH PEOPLE - GO ED. ♥

is lashing out in a most horrific case of good girl gone bad. (He never was very good but he did have to spend his whole life pretending very well that he was, enough to trust most of the time.)
HEE HEE HEE :) MY BRAIN IS SORT OF filled with Rihanna images now, but I do appreciate the analogy. :)

Loki looked like he was half in love with the idea of uncontrollable horrors raining down for funsies.HE'S IN LOVE WITH HIS OWN ( ... )

First of all, their stupid faces. *melts* OK, I'm good to go on now.

!! Brainwashing! I didn't even think to what extent that might have played a role, and the Chitauri obviously had brainwashing powers. Not that I think Loki is blameless, haha nope, but that is a very interesting thought to apply...

That was the plan. There used to be all those stripper Loki fanarts around, and they fundamentally did something to my view of him. ...But now I think I'm threatening to have genuine feelings about the idea of Thor/Loki set to "We Found Love in a Hopeless Place", which probably means I should be left somewhere quiet to think about my sins.

HE'S IN LOVE WITH HIS OWN CHAOSSSSSSS :)
YES. \o/ He looks like he's going to grow into that god of chaos role splendidly, with enthusiasm, unstoppably. I really, really like that.

I saw that Loki-Thor deleted scene post on your tumblr yesterday and - how is that fair? HOW IS IT MEANT TO HELP ANYONE? "Now give us a kiss", for the love of all that is good and sacred. Now I gotta go rent Thor ... FOREVER.

tales of asgard, released for the movie, where Loki and Thor actually have something resembling a normal relationship. AND A HUG.
Yes, to the first part, very yes to the second part. These are things that I want.

Ed I must confess now that I am typing this comment as Matt Bomer and Darren Criss's version of Gotye's Somebody that I Used to Know is playing on youtube. They play brothers in that episode of Glee, by the way. BROTHERS WITH A PAST. Matt Bomer is extremely pretty, however. It was a sign. The universe needed you to make this comment. NATASHAAAAAAA. I did not expect to have a favourite Avenger at all before the movie, that was a genuine surprise. FAVOURITE FOREVER.

I'm not too sure where I stood re: pre-movie expectations - I guess I expected it to the fun and entertaining and probably kind of riduclous and dumb because it's Hollywood? All around I think it met/exceeded said expectations more or less. XD

Loki was ... not quite what I expected. Less in control, I think. In hindsight, I'm pretty sure Loki doesn't really want to be in control, and he most definitely didn't want to be in control of HIMSELF. Trying to take over earth as alien tyrant king was his attempt at convincing everyone/himself that he wanted it more than anything else. His crazy, weirdly thought out attempt. I spent most of the movie just going -_- at him. Really, dude, I understand you have issues for some fairly good reasons but you think this is an effective way to resolve them... how? By this point he's clearly abandoned himself to merry mayhem and chaos and given up all hope of resolution ( ... )

NATASHA! I think part of my love is on a meta level? She actually had an arc! She got to be badass and emotional and never got her place on the team questioned because of being The Woman - and it's like, Hollywood? Are you feeling okay? Wait, never mind, just keep going! But also because she's just, basically, awesome. gets me right in what I want from a Badass Normal.

It did kind of feel that way. I also kept thinking "STUPID! STUPID! STUPID!" at various intervals. Especially when he's making bargains with the Chitauri person who would clearly eat his face off given half a chance. Loki, just go to Hawaii and relax a while.

I think people forgive a lot in terms of villain motivations in this kind of movie. Clearly there needs to be an evil guy, and if he wants to take over the world - welp, they all do!

I KNOW. It's like, wait, the only girl on the team is NOT just standing around being the token female? She's actually contributing to... THE PLOT? ANd being awesome and competent? And she has a relationship with a dude that doesn't eat up her entire character and is ambigious and complex ( ... )

I guessed given Whedon's track record at the very least Black Widow wasn't going to stand around being decorative, but it's still a pleasant surprise
True, true. I underestimated him rather. There are dodgy elements to his work but there is a lot to appreciate too.

(And maybe Marvel sitting on his head curbs some of his tendencies towards MISERY and DOOM and SUFERING FOR EVERYONE)
Good point! We're actually pretty lucky that Tony Stark came back from the warp hole. Without accidentally bringing back the nuclear warhead. Y'know, if he'd been locked in space it could've been like when Angel was locked into Hell, and then came back a couple months later all angsted up... Shameful confession, I might have liked that even though it would have been patently ridiculous in context.

Like, did they rescue him from his freefall and give him no choice.I'm going to pretend very hard this is the case and then hope even harder that Iron Man 3 will have some hints about that business. ...And I haven't even watched Iron Man 2 yet, though I probably ( ... )

I haven't found the purple trousers fic! I'm going to have to brave AO3's search interface properly. For some reason it puts me off.

It's not that Tony isn't interesting, it's that the character type isn't one that appeals to me. In his own movie I just feel like he's acting like a toddler and there are too many people around who indulge the behaviour.

Oh, I loved Loki in the opening scene so, so much. Every single thing he says or does. <3
Opening scene was the best. (Okay, the Germany scene was good too.) He was just so graciously and believably sweet about all the horrible things he was doing.

I imagine maybe he just figures he's tried being clinical and goal-oriented and it sucked, no more.hahaha, could work! I kind of think that he felt he'd been acting as the dutiful son back in Asgard - in his own special way, but where he never, ever would have questioned his own loyalties. His grand schemes were, ultimately, in favour of Asgard or at least wouldn't hurt it. So it makes sense that he's throwing even his old methods of ( ... )
