I have joined the masses, and my celebrity crush on Neil Gaiman is confirmed. The way to my heart: TERRIBLE jokes. In Sandman - and also in some Discworld novels, by the way - the names of occult entities can be found in the all-encompassing book the "Paginarum Fulvarum". Which means ( Read more... )

I kind of have the mild opposite of a celebrity crush when it comes to Neil Gaiman - I don't hate him, it's just... disillusionment, I think. Also I think he was a better person before all the fame of recent years. He's very good at self-promotion, but sometimes I think it smacks of egotism. I still love the way he writes, though, and when I'm bored I adore reading his blog entries. (You can follow him on LJ via the feed here - I do! :D)

Also, have you seen the 20 Neil Gaiman Facts? Samples:

Neil Gaiman once wrote a Nebula-winning story using only the middle row of his keyboard.

Neil Gaiman can tweet 175 characters.

Some authors write in omniscient point of view. Neil Gaiman lives it.

THOSE FACTS ARE AMAZING AHAHAHA. I'm physically incapable of picking a favourite. 1! 14! 6! All of them!

But we are indeed reversed on this topic - I was slow to come around to Neil because I'm not much of a fan of his writing, aside from Sandman and Good Omens. Then sometime this year I saw the blog entry about "George Martin is not your bitch", and then there were the pictures of his home library, and now the cheesy jokes... I'm easy, what can I say. :D

Ooh yes, Sandman! I'm with you on Gaiman's novels - I can't seem to like them as much as others do. Sandman I found highly enjoyable, though. The story is a bit uneven, but I found that it got better as it went along. Be warned, though, that there are some seriously squicky parts. There's one section that I'm pretty sure I'll never re-read. Still, it's very much worth checking out. It's such a rich story.
