And I would tend to agree with you about Douglas Sills, but only because I have never seen nor heard another professional, musical Percy. There have been several Chauvelins and several Marguerites both on record and for viewing on YouTube. But Sills is really the only (professional!) Percy I've heard recorded*, and he is the defining role, no doubt. Every Percy will be compared to him, no matter what, and no other Percy will ever touch Sills because of his status as the 'only' Percy.
I used to have a similar issue with William Daniels' John Adams (1776). Then I listened, really listened, to Brent Spiner's version and was able to accept two, distinct takes on the character. Whereas previously I would have never even imagined anyone but Daniels in the role. It did take hearing another prefessionally-recorded version to get to this point, however.
