Copics are strangely hard to work with. But you've got blending down, so you're pretty much there already. I've never been able to use them, myself, but that's because the smell prevents me from being nose-to-paper like I am with watercolours or india ink.
Most campus bookstores or places like Michael's Craft will sell both ring-bound and tablet-type Strathmore Bristol paper. The smooth stuff works best for markers, I think. Plus if the sheets are big enough, they make the wong wong wong sound when you shake them. X3
