This is great!! I predict Liz broke Jack's heart and that explains his standoffish behavior. But, I could be wrong (I usually am!).

I had it in my head that they'd be married or something, but looking back you left plenty of clues that wasn't the case.

Interesting. Actually, in Sophie Kinsella's original novel, the heroine actually does wake up married, with no recollection of her husband.
