One of the good things I believe I have gained from being politically conscious (and hopefully active) is that I can see things around me that previously escaped my attention. Like, two nights ago I was out with the two Marias, Anna and Dimitris (whom to my surprise I had greatly missed) and we were taking a walk along the port. At some point I saw ( Read more... )

I know how you feel with the immigration issues. America's got the same shit, people coming from Cuba/Mexico--I dunno about Europe, I don't hear much about those immigrants--but they're always complaining, debating. "Should we give them licenses, tax them, etc etc ( ... )

Well the fact that you haven't like researched on the subject doesn't mean you're clueless. You seem to know lots of stuff about it and I agree with you, I just feel bad for all the people that go through hell to cross the borders only to be treated like that in the receiving country =/
It's not like I can do much about it either in my country, other than raise awareness against racism and all the stupidities that come with it.

Immigration is one issue, and border patrol another. both are linked yet very separate problems, and neither has a simple solution, there is in my opinion right and wrongs on both sides, hence the no simple solution. I'm not sure about what it is like in Europe, or even much about the Cuban problem. Here in Texas the border with Mexico is over 1,200 miles long. Some coming across are ones who just wish a better life, and hope to find one here. I like many others feel for them, and would like to help. However there is another type, and it is a serious problem, here in Texas, drug, and weapon smuggling, violent gangs, even sale of women who would soon become sex slaves in America, these issue are but just a few, and sigh, unfortunately they are very wide spread, and becoming more so. At this time in some border towns in Texas, it is no longer safe to be out at night the threat of gang violence is so prevalent. No easy answers, the gangs have even taken to kidnapping women here to sell in Mexico, it's a symptom of the sad state of ( ... )
