You want mashups? I got your mashups. Thanks to the always hyper-classy fearnot for bringing it to my attention. This is a mashup of top 25 Billboard hits from 2009. It's crazy professional and just sounds great, even if you're like me and only know the Gaga songs and Jason Mraz. And "Single Ladies" because damn it Beyonce that song is as infectious as ( Read more... )

i'm googoo for gaga puffs, no real substance

Oooh, 'hyper-classy'. I like that :D

I'm glad you liked it. I was listening to mash-ups for the rest of the night. :D

You are the classiest! This is fact.

Mashups are so, so good. The DJ Hero soundtrack has some pretty solid mashups ("Ice Ice Baby" vs. "Straight Up" is probably my favorite), but the downside is that there's a lot of scratching. Which makes sense, given the source, but still.

Oh man, the DJ Hero demo I played was so much fun for me. I felt ridiculous but it was all good.

I'm doing a thread where Ivan from Golden Sun reads Terra's mind and finds out that she can't control her powers, so she freaks out and kicks him out and maybe her powers go haywire, I'm still working on that part. Anyway.

FANTASTIC. I wish I were coordinated enough to dance.

Niiiiice. Much better than 2008's, though I still think 2007 is his best, just because it had a better beat to me. I can't deny, however, that his technique is much better on this latest one.

Also, wow, tons of the same theme rehashed again and again and AGAIN this year. But, I guess that's how it's been for the past decade.

...oh MAN, it would be so amazing if DJ Earworm did a top songs of the decade one.

...Hold up, this is a recurring thing? I think you have just made today much, much better.

I think it's inevitable at this point, if he's been doing it for the past few years. I'd listen to it. It would be nostalgia central for me.

Yup! Since 2007 anyway, I think. 2008 is up on youtube, too.

Well, he'll definitely do a 2010 version. But what I want is a mix of 200-2009. That would be so boss.

It's fun going through the 2007, 2008, and 2009 versions and listen to the steadily increasing use of autotune. It's ridiculous. Also 2008 is so much better than 2009 just because Viva La Vida is a much better backbeat than whatever was going on this year.

I have no problems with autotune being used as an instrument, like in Cher's "Believe" -- you know, as a vocoder substitute. I think it sounds really cool that way. But my dad pointed out that there was a Mariah Carey song that got super-popular this year, and it had autotune on it. Mariah Carey doesn't need autotune at all; she's an actually talented singer. And she got autotuned anyway. It is totally ridiculous.

Oh man, I actually love autotune. It definitely has its moments when you want to sound like a robot or hypermelodic or something. For example, three of the four songs that have vocals on Daft Punk's Discovery use autotune and they're fantastic. It's just getting too ubiquitous if you ask me. :/
