Welcome to your new Relic! Relics are the cutting edge of the steampunk-styled Massive Multiplayer Online game, The World. They're very similar to your average smart phone. They're steam-powered by coal, but don't fret-- you don't have to worry about stoking the fires, refilling the coal, or reception! They'll work anywhere within The World and provide a few helpful luxuries, and are easy to use with the innovative touch screen technology, present in most modern-day electronics and now available within The World.

Every Player in The World has a Relic in their belt pack upon logging in, and it can be used for any purpose, for any person! Please read the entire manual to understand how to use your Relic to its fullest potential.

There's a short FAQ related to the Relic below the icon legend, and any further questions can be asked in the comments!

DESCRIPTION

STATUS: This is where you can look at your level, any status ailments, and a list of items currently "equipped", with any bonuses/elemental defense bonuses listed below. If you're in a party, a quick slide of your finger over the touch screen will switch to your party members so you can see their info as well. Another swipe will show you a list of achievements earned and still available.

MAP: The map feature will show you where you are in any town or field area, and show you where you've traveled in dungeons. (You can use a particular item to show you the entire map in dungeons!) You'll be marked as a dot with an arrow showing you which way you're facing, and there's a compass in the top corner. GMs and party members will also be marked as dots on your map-- GMs are blue and party members are white.

AREA WORDS: When you near a Chaos Gate, in town or in an area, your Relic will begin beeping and this menu will come up on its own, or you can access it to see which area words you have. This will show you which servers you can access, and which area words are available to your level bracket, as well as give you area information once you've warped. Details would include area level, an image of the area type and weather conditions, area element, and the area objective.

INVENTORY: Accessing your inventory is capable only through this menu! When you select an item, it will warp into your hands automatically, but there is no other way to access them. No matter the size, items are placed in your inventory by sticking them in the pack on your belt, available to all classes. They will disappear into it and show up in your inventory, accessible any time. If you were to reach into the pack, there is nothing in it and it is physically no larger than it appears. The pack is meant to hold your Relic, where it will re-appear if you lose it or attempt to leave it behind.

MEMBER LIST: Keeps track of the people you've met and exchanged member addresses with, which comes in handy for BBS posting and contacting your friends via flash mail. When you exchange member addresses, a physical punch card appears in your inventory that you can insert in your Relic to filter journal posts to. All players have the mods noobtrampolines, and knockedonwood's member addresses from the start.

BBS: A limited intranet available through the Relics, only in The World. There's only one main feature: a journal community for journal posts, where everyone with a Relic can see your entries and reply to them. You can filter your entries to certain people by inserting a physical member punch card into the right side of your Relic, which appears in your inventory when you exchange member addresses with someone. There's an image of the person on the card to distinguish them, and you can only filter entries to people you've met and exchanged member addresses with.

FLASH MAIL: Need to get ahold of a friend, but you aren't in the same town, or you're in an area and they aren't? Flash Mail is the answer! Pull up their member info in your member list, and there's an option for flash mail-- or you can just enter someone's name if you haven't exchanged member addresses with them. Think of it like text messaging-- a quick, instant way to contact other players for whatever reason. You needed help on a quest after all, your party needs a healer, or you want to know when to meet up to trade that extra broadsword they picked up and don't want!

✖ What happens if I lose my Relic? What happens to it when I drop my character?

It's literally impossible to lose your Relic! If you set it down on a bench in town and leave, it will re-appear in the small pack on your belt before you know it.

The only time that a Relic is capable of parting from it's owner is when they leave The World. The Relic will show up on the fountain edge where it will be collected by a GM, and all information will be wiped so that the Relic can be recycled for new players. All Relics stolen from the fountain can be tracked by the GMs and the thieves will be dealt a severe punishment.

✖ How do I exchange Member Addresses? What about the member cards you mentioned, for filtering journal posts?

To exchange member addresses, you hold up your Relics within a two foot space, and the sensors on the back will exchange the information and a member address punch card will appear in your inventory, as well as their name on your member list. The member cards are binary punch cards, with a full-body image of the player as the background with their name along the top. All players have the GMs noobtrampolines and knockedonwood's member addresses when they show up in The World.
