Elle wasn't even sure why she was here. Or why she had thought of this in the first place

It's too soon.

He shouldn't have said yes. Or any semblance of the word "yes" for that matter. (Ash merely nodded and made a hm noise when answering Elle's question.)

It was nice enough to befriend someone. And it was also nice for this someone to help him out.

But he just needed to be alone. The whole "grieving" process thing.

He was going to not show. Really.

But - at the last possible minute - Ashley J. Williams felt a pang of guilt.

Don't be an asshole.

Elle flips past a page or two in her textbook before looking up to see Ash. She's genuinely surprised, but she quietly waves him over as she closes the book.

He doesn't return the wave. His "hands" are stuffed into the pockets of his new hoodie.

"Hi," he says when he's at the table, standing a bit awkwardly. "Sorry, I just - there was - yeah. Sorry."

[deltanudaughter]

"It's fine," she says, putting her textbook back in her bag. "I honestly wasn't sure if you'd be here or not. I'm glad you decided to come though."

She then motions for him to sit across from her, pushing the chair out a little with her foot.
