Elle has the house to herself for once. The family went out to the movies and Elle stayed behind. Ash had insisted that she come along, but Elle had come up with some excuse for not go. Something about not feeling well ( Read more... )

He's lost track of time. Sure, he's only counted two - three days tops where he's been. When he's been.

Ash just hopes he hasn't left everyone else for much longer than that. It's impossible to gauge exactly how quickly time moves between planes of existence.

The time nonsense slips his mind when he tumbles through the door, landing on the floor of Emily's room in a heap. Worst weekend ever. Even worse than the last one he spent nearly getting killed.

He looks different. His clothes have changed - they're still medieval, but someone had made sure he was clothed while he was there. It doesn't matter know, since he's covered in dirt and blood and God only knows what else.

You would think he's fought an army or something.

He stays on the floor for a few moments, just glad he can close his eyes and stay still - even though he doesn't like what he sees behind his lids.

Everything hurts.

Then he tries making his way to the hall.

Elle only heard the noises coming from Emily's room. Her heart jumped for a second, but she still stepped cautiously into the hall and towards Emily's room, reaching her arm out gingerly for the door. There was no guarantee of what came through Emily's closet at any time.

"Hello?"

Ash leans against the doorframe and peers out into the hall. "Elle? Babe?"

And when his eyes meet hers, he manages to crack a smile, his teeth bright against the dirt on his face. He greets her with a tired "Honey, I'm home."

Elle's heart leaps when she sees Ash standing in the door. She stands there for a second, not believing what she's seeing. As soon as she sees that smile, she's running over to him and clinging to him. And crying. "Omigod..."

She doesn't care how much dirt and blood is on him. She's just happy he's back in one piece.

Three hours pass by before the front door opens with surprising quietness. That would be because the younger kids are fast asleep - Movies plus Red Robin will do that to the very young - and even Emily's pretty droopy-eyed.

Ash nudges Emily gently. "You get into the bath," he instructs.

"Aww, why do I hafta?"

"Becuse I could grow potatoes in your ears."

"Why would you wanna do that?"

Ash just groans. "It's too late for questions. Just go."

Sheila takes the babies and makes for the bedrooms. She puts down the babies and then heads to their room.

That's when she lets out a surprised squeak.

It's enough to send Ash after her, gun drawn.

Elle stirs a little bit as she hears the family come in. She ponders getting out of bed to say hi, but she doesn't want to wake Ash up if she moves.

Then wakes up when she hears Sheila squeak. She remembers where they are now.

"Oh crap...Sorry Sheila." Elle's stage whispering at this point as she sits up in the bed.

"I...appologize," Sheila manages. She can see bare portions of shoulder peeking up from beneath the sheets, and regular snoring. "It seems ye had stronger need than I of the bed, young one."

Ash stowes the rifle away and grunts. "You scared the holy hell out of me," he complains fondly. Then he peeks into the room. "He made it." Not a question; he always knew that he would.

Under normal circumstances? Ash would also apologize for winding up in the really comfy bed. At the very least - he would say hi.

But he very well can't do that when he's out cold.

He still thinks he's clinging to Elle in his sleep, even though she's moved. And he may or may not be snoring - just a bit.
