I think the humanist in you might be right, but the money we're spending on space travel would never be moved to helping the poor and sick (at least not in the US). All of the research and development funds would likely be moved to national defense or something. So, I'll take space instead.

Yeah that's true. So I guess you're right there! Btw how's London? So jealous - I'm in Hull and it's my birthday next week and there's NOTHING TO DO!!!

Pretty much what softly_me said. :) There are better causes they could be spending this money on, but there are also much worse causes.

Well obviously I meant ideally! So if I had to choose it would go on helping others. But there's no way they'd actually use that money to help others... *sigh*

Well IMO space exploration is very important! All these inventions that were discovered during the process of knowing the outer space are useful in our life. I think if the governments would REALLY want to help the world's poor it would be done by now. But as we know it is not worth-while for them. So if our humanist arguments haven't convincedg them, we should use it for different purpose, that goverments will be interested in.
