I just wanted to say I agree totally with this post (sorry, too much wine, can't coherently formulate thoughts ;-) Family Guy is a recent offender but this is something that's as old as misogyny itself.

I think that if you have any reservations about the vagina or its beauty, you shouldn't be allowed access to one, but that's just me.

We've already talked about this a lot buuuut :)

I think the bottom line is that genitals are weird, sex is weird, and people have lots of hang ups about it. These things are of course also natural and wonderful, but weird as well. And society has such a huge problem with free expression of sexuality, so it's made fun of to the point where even vaginas get a stigma created for them.

This is probably not making sense cuz I just woke up still a little high from last night but anyway ;P

It's fucked up, and stupid. But I do assure you that there are a lot of people out there who don't find genitals disgusting (I say genitals and not vaginas cuz I know some women who are like EWW PENIS!!). In fact, most people who hold any semblance of maturity and intelligence don't find them icky, from what I've experienced. And you're not likely to be having sex with someone who is stupid and immature, so I wouldn't worry :)

ugh, yes, thank you. I remember having watched Family Guy a long time ago and enjoying it, and then watching it a couple of years ago and just being appalled at how hateful it was! I don't know if I got more sensitive to those issues, or if the show got horrible at some point.

Yeah, I was never very fond of Family Guy. :-/

And, I mean it's one think to dislike how genitals look, and it doesn't mean you can't still enjoy sex (because really when you get down to it they are sort of silly looking things) but I've also seen a sort of attitude like "oh look at you and your gross vagina you're so lucky I'm even sleeping with you." And that's nasty, because shaming people based on their body parts is just not okay.
