Theme music: Chopin's Valse op. 64 no. 1, also known as "The Minute Waltz" or "La Valse du Petit Chien". This version by Valentina Lisitsa is how I think Junsu would play it.

“Chopin’s Nocturne in G Minor op. 15, no.3? Why am I not surprised?”

Junsu turned his head to see the source of the voice. That familiar voice. Changmin. Junsu could see the edges of the guy’s face as he walked closer, the window was behind his back, making him look like a shadow when the light was all behind. His hair was disheveled like usual, and as he came closer Junsu could see his rather peculiar lips were curled into a proud smile.

“What do you mean ‘not surprised’? You don't know what I would play.”

“Well, I’m not surprised that you like Chopin. You have the appearance of an incurable romantic,” Changmin laughed as he leaned against the piano, “On a side note, that impression of you just vanishes whenever you start to speak. Why that emotionless voice? And that emotionless playing?”

Emotionless playing? Junsu felt his blood boiled. His music is always perfect with variations of tones and tempos, and it was not for no reason that Junsu was known as the best pianist in the conservatory. He was never proud but he had learnt music long enough to know what he was playing - and he did not like his playing being insulted like that. Did this Changmin guy even know music?

Oh but sure he did. Not everyone these days could cite the name of a random Chopin’s nocturne like he had just done.

“Why, don’t be angry. I like your playing,” Changmin looked at him with those deep, bright, intelligent eyes. “Hey, play me a piece. Something fun please!”

Junsu regarded the guy for a few second. Then he started playing.

Chopin’s Valse op. 64 no. 1.

When he finished, Changmin was looking amused. “’Le Petit Chien’? ‘The Little Dog?’ For me?”

Junsu scoffed. “Isn’t that the most suitable for you? Isn’t it that you have been following me around these days?”

Changmin suddenly laughed out really loudly. He even sat down to laugh, and finally practically rolled out on the floor. His long body was stretching out like a long worm rolling around.

Five minutes later, Changmin could finally sit up. He said between muffled laughter, “You are so interesting Junsu. Thanks for the piece, it’s beautiful with all the sarcasm in there - full of emotion indeed. So, you notice?”

“I’m not stupid.”

“Ahhh… Please pardon me. It’s only because you are so interesting.”

“Well, with all that time you can go on a date with your girlfriend. Don’t waste it on me.”

Stupidstupidstupidstupid, Junsu immediately cursed himself. Before he knew it, he had said it. He had let it escape that he actually had even learnt and remembered facts about Changmin.

Changmin was looking at Junsu with his big eyes. Those big, caramel brown eyes, clear like a child’s. “Eh? You even know I have a girlfriend?”

Junsu stopped breathing for a second.

“Aish, damn those gossippers!” Changmin exhaled loudly before laying down on the floor again, “I know I’m famous and all but when everybody knows I have a girlfriend it’s kind of not nice. No matter how many girls follow me, I just can’t have fun with any of them for fear that my girlfriend will learn abou it. Darn.”

Junsu rolled his eyes. “Well, don’t speak like everyone is that interested in learning about you. It’s just that your fangirls are everywhere and all they talk about is you. What Changmin oppa wears today. What classes he has today. What club activities he is going to today. Who is his basketball team against today. Too much information, thank you very much.”

Changmin grinned, his white teeth showing. “Well, but if it’s you who learns things about me, I’m glad.” Junsu’s heart missed a beat again.

“After all, I would have to tell you eventually. Junsu, the reason I have been following you around is that I’ve been in search of a pianist. For my girlfriend’s birthday.”

Junsu felt a pang in his heart. But Changmin continued.

“She’s a fan of Liszt. Though you’re incompetent at playing pieces about love, your technique is perfect. No one else in here is competent enough to play Liszt like I know you are.”

“Thanks for the compliment,” Junsu scoffed, “But a piece for your girlfriend, isn’t that supposed to be full of love? And you think I’m unable to express love?”

“I don’t plan to let any guy play a piece with love for my girlfriend, I am the only one that’s supposed to show her love, thank you very much.”

“Possessive bastard.”

“Gee. But please? Anything well-known is okay. 'Liebestraum'?”

“Okay. But let me alone after this won’t you?”

Changmin just smiled. Widely.
