“You know I missed you,” Garnet dragged her finger across the plains of Zidane’s bare chest, watching as he breathed, wondering if he was truly there with her or not, “I missed you a lot.” Her voice was barely above a whisper as she shifted her body, snuggling closer to his side to rest her head on his chest, feeling his strong heartbeat in her ear.
“And you have no idea how much I missed you my steely dagger,” Zidane said, grinning, closing his eyes and running his fingers through her silky dark hair. He took in the comforting feeling of finally being with her again, and when she shifted her dark mop of hair brushed his nose, her warm breath calming against his neck.
“For a while there… I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to make it,” she spoke quietly against his throat, tightening her hold on him as if he would vanish if she didn't keep a grip on him.
It was hard to think of the time he had ached to be with her, unsure if he would ever get the chance to or not. The rush of emotion caught in his throat left his eyes stinging with the onset of tears threatening to form. Zidane cleared his throat several times, causing Garnet to lean up, her gaze a mixture of worry and sadness.
Zidane caressed her cheek, leaning in to press a kiss to her forehead, “Sure you would have, I didn’t fall for some helpless maiden who couldn’t hold her own.”
She whimpered and leaned further into him, their foreheads pressed together as she kissed the tip of his nose, her hand covering his against her cheek, “No… but it hurt… everywhere I looked, I could see people happy with the ones they loved and I… I though you were dead.” Garnet's words left her mouth in a near whisper, her fears finally being voiced after so long.
The emotion she showed for him...
The love he could feel radiating from her...
It shook him to his very core.
“I thought I was dead, but you… thinking of you and that song you sang,” he pulled her close to his chest, kissing the top of her head, the tears threatening to spill over as he spoke, “At first, I thought you had died along with me, but then I felt as if you were pulling me from death’s grip.”
Zidane inhaled sharply, rubbing his hands up and down Garnet's back, leaning her away so that he could once again stare into her beautiful eyes. She touched his bare skin along his torso as she straddled him, bare to him just as well. He ran his calloused palm along her milky soft breast, brushing the sensitive rose-dusted nipple. Zidane's voice was low and hoarse when he finally spoke again, still drinking in the sight of her with everything he had in him, “It comforted me… and allowed me to come home to you.”
“I missed you so much,” Garnet hiccuped, trying to hold back her emotions, silent tears that escaped traced warm paths down her cheeks. He pulled her into a gentle kiss, brushing his thumb along her cheek, erasing the sadness from her soft features.
“Shh, don't cry sweetheart,” Zidane whispered, grazing his lips against hers, pulling her tightly into his arms. “I love you so much, Garnet. I'm sorry that it took me so long.”
“You have a lot to make up for,” Garnet admonished, a slow grin turning her lips upward, her reddening cheeks brighter as she forced the sadness away.
He returned her grin with a smirk of his own, “That I do. Shall we get to it?” he laughed, rolling them over and pinning her to the mattress playfully.
