Tifa watched from her safe position, hand blocking the sunlight as she gazed upward, making sure Cloud was balancing the sign the right way. “It’s little to far to the right,” she said, pointing to catch his attention to the mistake.
Without much to say, Cloud shifted and inched the bar sign to the left until Tifa called out for him to stop. He glanced at her over his shoulder waiting for her thumbs up of approval. He pushed his sunglasses further up his nose, making sure then didn’t slide off and break somehow.
“That’s perfect!” she said, smiling and watching as he drilled the bolts down, keeping the sign where it needed to be, “Be careful when you come down!”
He nodded as he stepped down onto the ladder, one foot carefully placed on the rung at a time. He stepped onto the ground and turned to face Tifa, who was smiling brightly, making the corners of his own lips twitch. She nodded happily at the sign over the oning of the bar, going to slide the ladder down into a more travelable size.
“The bar came together quiet nicely, don’t you think?” she asked as they walked around the side of the building to the shed they had built around back.
Cloud followed her quietly, keeping his sunglasses on to block the sunlight from reaching his light sensitive eyes, “It’s a lot nicer than before.”
Sitting the ladder in the shed, Tifa peeked her head out, brow slightly furrowed in a straight stare, “Hey, my other one wasn’t bad either.”
Cloud snorted and crossed his arms, “One of the better buildings in the Sector 7 Slums.”
Instead of tossing back another retort, she chuckled, “It’s possible you might be right.” Tifa closed the shed door and locked it up tight, turning to face him, her eyes bright with humor, “Thank you, Cloud.”
The blond raised a brow, “For what?”
Tifa gave a shrug and stepped past him, heading to the backdoor, “You know, for coming back here… rebuilding… starting fresh… that kind of thing.” She smiled at him over her shoulder and motioned for him to go in before her.
He entered the bar, walking down the hallway into the front area, where Tifa went behind the counter and started washing the few dishes that occupied the wash bin, “I don’t have anywhere to go,” he mumbled, sliding onto one of the stools, resting his arms on the counter. Tifa paused, eying him closely as he continued, his gaze focused on his reflection from the mirror behind the display of alcohol, though to be honest, she really didn‘t know what he was staring at. “And Edge has been progressing rather well as of late.”
Tifa dried her hands, and reached to pull down a bottle of whiskey from the top shelf, and poured some in a glass she had gotten ready, setting it down on the counter in front of Cloud, “Here, I just wanted to thank you and let you know that you’ve been a big help lately, so it’s on the house.”
He chewed on the corner of his lip before talking the glass and knocking back the whiskey quickly, setting the glass back on the table. Tifa smiled at him, and leaned on the counter, resting her chin on her palm.
“Your welcome,” Cloud mumbled, gaze anywhere but on his companion in front of him.
Tifa tilted her head, eying him before she leaned forward and confidently removed his sunglasses, “You know not to wear these in my bar,” she folded them and set them under the counter, out of Cloud’s reach, the male snorting in slight annoyance.
After a few minutes, Tifa returned to cleaning the last of the dishes. She grabbed a dry hand towel to start drying them, placing the glasses upside down on the counter when she had finished with them. It was quiet, since opening day was a week away and when Tifa finished, she went around and sat on the stool next to Cloud, bringing the bottle of whiskey and another glass with her.
She refilled Cloud’s glass and poured herself some as the blond mumbled out, “I’m thinking of starting my own business.”
“Oh?” Tifa smiled around the edge of her glass as she sipped her whiskey, making a slight cringe as the bitterness slid along her tongue. With a slight cough, Tifa asked, “What do you plan on doing?”
“Not mercenary work that’s for sure,” he snorted, glancing at her with an even stare, making her smile in return.
Nodding, Tifa watched him down another serving of whiskey and she easily poured him another round, “Ah, something more calmer?”
“Yeah, like a delivery boy,” Cloud glanced at her again, his mako colored eyes sharp and intense in their observation.
She swallowed the bitter mouthful of whiskey, inhaled deeply as her cheeks pinked, swirling the remaining honey colored liquid in her glass, “Delivering what?”
Cloud shrugged, his usual manner when he was tired of answering questions, but that did nothing to hinder Tifa as she lightly shoved at his shoulder, “You want to be my errand boy?” When he didn’t respond to her jibes, Tifa paused, thinking about it on a more serious aspect, “You know that’s not a bad idea.”
He raised a brow in her direction as he grabbed the bottle of whiskey, his cheeks feeling warm from the alcohol as he poured himself a little more in the glass. Tifa nodded and stood up, downing what was left of hers, slamming the glassware on the countertop, “I’ll employ you to be my errand boy under one condition.”
“Hm?”
“You have to live here with me. No charge,” she pointed at him, her large chocolate eyes serious.
Cloud snorted, staring into his glass of whiskey, “Us… living together? What makes you think that would work?”
Tifa leaned in close, draping herself on his shoulders as she pressed a quick, friendly kiss to his cheek, causing the ex-SOLDIER to break out into a blush, “What’s stopping it from working out?” She chuckled and flicked his ear before plopping back down on the stool.
The blond stared at her flatly, before taking the whiskey bottle and pouring her some more, “We could try.”
She grinned, licking her lips, “Just like we could try having something… between us…” she hummed and downed her whiskey as Cloud watched her, before shaking his head.
“One thing at a time, Tifa,” he said.
She nodded, her good humor ever present as she bumped her glass with his, “One thing at a time then.”
