Nor should a ghost be vanquished, sir. A ghost's spirit must be purified and released, not destroyed, else the soul itself will die.

But yes, really. Why do you seem so dubious?

...Ghosts don't want to die. That's why they chose to be ghosts in the first place. [frown] They're Muggle terms from before the Statute of Secrecy was implemented. Those things exist, but not exactly in the way people think they do.

... Ghosts are most often the spirits of vengeful souls whose anger or hatred or unfinished business will not let them pass on to the next world--it is rarely a choice made of one's own volition. Truly pitiful creatures, ghosts, but they are creatures that must be handled delicately.
