I've been trying to analyze it but it's been difficult...part of the trouble is that the Earl likes collecting poisons himself, so it wouldn't be hard for a member of his staff to get their hands on an unusual kind.

Well, it could still be one of the maids as well, or maybe another staff member sneaking into the kitchen. Though, out of any of them, the butler would have had the easiest time carrying this out, since Cain seems to think he's infallible.
