archiving links

So, like many other fannish users of del, I am concerned about the loss of the community-driven fic/art recs that we now get from delicious. The opt-in policy AVOS has decided to implement means we're going to lose the links of inactive users, which means it's going to be more difficult to get recs and find things in fandom. Wow. There is no way I have the skills to help out with that, but I really hope it works out. I think I could check over my links to other people's links and get names of some inactive users, though. Good luck!

I'm neither tech savvy nor do I run a Mac, so I wouldn't be able to help there.

Perhaps after we have something more conclusive on what constitutes an inactive user (no new bookmarks in the last 6 months? year? 2 years?), we could have a post were people can leave comments with the usernames of said inactive accounts for tech-savvy people to export from?

(For once I wish they'd made something opt-out instead of opt-in!)

Linux user here, willing to help if you need me. At first glance, it looks like it'd be fairly easy to convert the API output into the same format as the Delicious exporter, which should make for easy importing later.

kronos999 made a Delicious export java program that doesn't rely at all on the API or JSON -- it just scrapes an account's html page by page, until all the public bookmarks have been pulled into an XML file. Sounds basically perfect! (Might need updates if it hasn't been adjusted for any recent Delicious html changes.)

Maybe people can 'sign up' to pimp this in their individual fandoms. I wouldn't know where to start to locate inactive delicious accounts, but there are people in my primary fandom (SPN) who follow who leaves fandom, who goes underground, changes names, etc. They might know.
