That Old Nabe of Mine

Jul 22, 2008 09:45

I'm in Boston for the next few days, working on the last chapters of The Magic Mirror of the Mermaid Queen. I'm staying in a rented room in a sprawling concatination of small apartments, with doors and windows and outside staircases pretty much everywhere. It's right across the street from the Porter Square Exchange, which is about a 2 minute ( Read more... )

Wow. This really brought back old memories. I lived in my condo in Porter Sq. (on Upland Rd) for almost 20 years. I went through so much there and was so involved in the community. Whenever I visit the area I am filled with a sort of bittersweet sense of nostalgia, I miss the person I was and yet I also am so glad to have her behind me.

This post brought all that back-happy writing!

Upland... did-do you by any chance know Priscilla Cobb (and-or her two daughters)?

Upland Road! Wow.

I know exactly what you mean about missing the person I was living here, yet being fine with leaving her behind. I'm braver and more confident as a New Yorker than I was as a Bostonian, even after 30+ years of living here.

Thanks for the good wishes. They're bearing fruit.

I moved to Boston maybe a week or two after you and Ellen left - so it's strange for me to think of the two of you being here!

I usually go to Diesel every Tuesday. Debating whether I ought to go today, or use today as decompression.

I guess you decompressed--or else you kindly didn't bother me as I wrestled with lively verbs and recalcitrant nouns.

I'll be there all day today (and I do mean all day). And then I'm moving operations to Harvard Square (I like Cafe Algiers, too), and then I'm going home Friday afternoon.

Yep, decompressed; today I'm cleaning. Feh.

If you want company at Cafe Algiers, I'd love to join you; that's just a bus ride away, and I love their mujjadhara. (If I'm spelling that right.)

You guess about the spelling is as good as mine. It's good, isn't it?

Thank you for the offer of company. I'm kind of stressed and distracted, and might need to wrestle with Chapter 18 alone. It's also going to be a short day, because of having to pack and haul stuff into Harvard Square before I can settle down to work. So I think not.

I'm going to be SO GLAD when this book is done and I'm a reasonable human being again.

Yes, being a ghost must be a little like this, except people can see you and hear you.

I'm always a little surprised that they can, under these circumstances. I feel the same way when traveling alone.

Go you! So happy to have finally met you at Readercon. I hope you have only happy inspiration and very sore fingers from writing over the next few days.
