I always have a threefold reaction to the prospect of hosting a party: first, I'm excited; second, I'm running around like a chicken with its head cut off and panicking and miserable; and, finally, I end up having fun, so if I could figure out the best way to shorten the middle step, I think I'd do better. :) Our current living space isn't the best for hosting things, so probably not until we move.

After many years of party-giving, I have discovered that the only cure for the middle step is to do it often enough so you develop a routine. We've pretty much got it down to a fine art by now, although there's always that moment when we wonder if this was a good idea or not. I suspect everyone who doesn't have caterers or hired hands or helpful friends experiences it.
