A stranger pairing is probably possible (King Lear & Wicked?)  At least they're both comedies, and both funny.  And they both have (as comedies tend to do) love as their central plot device.  Both are notable for exuberant language and the occasional double-entendre.  However, one is a distinctly middle-class play in praise of good cheer and upward ( Read more... )

You could have knocked me over with a feather when they did a full production of *The Witch of Edmonton* last winter. The Devil Dog was particularly good. That's our dear Red Bull Theater. They rush in where angels fear to tread (they might get their wings bloody). Chapman, Johnson, Dekker. Genet. All they care is if it's emotionally violent (at the very least--high body counts are also good) and verbally dextrous.

I think the most I can hope for here is a student production. The London theatres occasionally do Middleton, and the Almeida does a classic melodrama once in a blue moon, but...
Envy.

The television show Due South can be accurately described as multiple seasons of Paul Gross adorably deconstructing, well, everything, but specifically cop shows, sitcoms, and Canada-U.S. relations. I highly recommend it if you haven't seen it.

Oh, MAN, I was in NY over Thanksgiving weekend but we couldn't afford the theatre so we didn't go...I would have loved to see Paul Gross as Elyot!

I really wish someone had released a recording of Kim Cattrall when she played Cleopatra in Liverpool last year. I heard she was amazing.
