Nanowrimo. We can cheer each other on! I've done it the past four years and actually finished two of them - it's an excuse to write, which is something at least.
Hi there! I didn't know you knew about this journal, haha.
NaNo's hard for me to commit to. I've skipped the last couple of years because my schedule only gives me two free weekends a month, one of which I spend out of town... and there's Thanksgiving in there. But I've been thinking about giving it a shot this year anyway, so you might be on. I'll still want to produce something else, though, since NaNo is all about turning off your inner editor and I'm not going to do my best work that way. ^^; But it's fun and a good exercise.
As for birthday plans... nothing, really. Some old friends are coming down from Duluth and we're going to the Renaissance Festival that weekend, but that's more of a general thing we do every year.
It is true that Nano is largely about killing that inner editor (or at least throwing him in a dank cellar for the better part of a month), but I find for first drafts that's a really good thing. Too often when I write I find myself circling back and re-editing what I've already written - at a certain critical mass, that's all I do. Ah well. Whatever works, right?
Yeah, I definitely see the usefulness of NaNo for that reason. Personally, though, I tend to do my first round of editing as I'm writing. I worry I'd forget good ideas for changes if I tried to come back to them after the whole thing was said and done. Most likely I'll still at least try to do it this year, for the exercise. I've been skipping it for too long.
You are depressed about your age? I'm tempted to whack my walker across your noggin, you whippersnapper. ^_^
Seriously, though, the Republican nominee for veep is going to be a grandparent... and she's five years younger than I am. Now that makes me feel ooooold.
Thanks for the note, I knew a lot of stuff in dablackrose's post already but I still added it to my memories for future reference. :)
I'm not really thinking about publishing at this point, I don't care if whatever I produce this year never gets read by another person. I just want to write something to completion, just to have a finished piece of original fiction behind me so I've done something and can be officially on the path toward my dream.
I was young too (started kindergarten at 4, university at 15). Maybe that's why I never grew up :) It's deffinenetly a youngen thing, we're all overachievers and get really mad when we don't live up to that expectation (well, except for me because being a gimp and incapible of achieving anything, I've learned to accept failure least I hurl myself off a bridge and view accomplishment as not using lifeline for a month or leg-pressing 50lbs.). You'll get there though :)
Aww! Happy b-day Dejana! I'm sorry you're depressed about it. Just remember some of the greatest authors (like edgar allen poe) didn't publish any of their successful work until they were in their 30s or 40s. Gives you plenty of time to refine your skillz :P
Also i'm sorry that my post did not give you any new information. It was all new to me! I can't believe we aren't friends yet... I'm going to go fix that now. And if you have an specific questions you'd like me to ask, let me know! My prof said he is going to get me a few names and phone numbers of some agents for fiction (at least just to check out!) Maybe during that meeting there will be more interesting info.
happy b-day! (and i have to mention i LOVED Against all odds!! I'm so sad you left the fandom)
Well, I haven't really left the fandom, I'm just not writing much anymore, period. I do have a few more Sailormoon fics I want to write before I set fanfic aside. :)
