I only have it on for anonymous users, though honestly, I don't know why. However, have selected 'no' for the communities I run and it is STILL showing them and I don't know why =/

Ah well, fortunately, it looks like they're backing off of that plan, in the face of all of the outrage. YAY LJ!

Well, it appears they at least know when to admit they made a mistake. They edited the announcement page to note that they are removing the feature. \o/

I have to give them credit, it looks like they've listened to all the angry comments this morning and are reversing their decision. So A+ for responsiveness! :)

How many times will it take before they learn to do some bloody research BEFORE they do the stupid? Great news though and thanks for letting me know. ( ... )

I'm writing a long and rantastic email to say that if they have to keep this function, the least they could do is not make it retroactive so people have a CHOICE about whether to comment on journals where IP location is logged.

I'm with that chorus that says, yes, I know that someone would find me based on IP with some fairly simple digging... but digging is the keyword there. Now, it's all... HEY LOOK WHERE I AM. Who's brilliant fucking idea was this, anyway?

This just adds to the pile of freak out I've been having about privacy lately (internet crap, the assault on reproductive rights, additions to the Patriot Act renewal)... I wanna win the lottery so I can move to an island in the sun, sigh.

Well, LJ has changed their minds in the face of YOUR FURY and they're taking away the identifications after all. I credit you!! ;)

However, I'd still like to join you on your island. Can I come with? I will bring pina coladas.

Yes! I haven't actually SENT the email yet, but I'm sure that the force of my fury could be felt in spite of that!

You can DEFINITELY come with. We'll have the pina coladas and the chips and salsa and all the J2 porn in the world. It will be paradise, and no one will log IP addresses.

I love how you find so many appropriate uses for that icon.

But whoa, LJ, take the suck out.
