I actually downloaded an older version of the software years ago and started to teach myself. It's a cool program, but I got distracted before I could produce anything meaningful. Plus, with it being an older version, things weren't as intuitive as they are now. I found it harder than I expected (despite sitting through the lynda.com tutorial).
Oh thank you for the first-hand anecdote. I almost always find new software harder than expected (which is one reason I haven't updated my vidding software since I began 4 years ago. d'oh!), and honestly, the animation stuff looks like it could be ridic complicated. On the other hand, I wonder if, like with vidding, there are lot of bells and whistles that you can just opt NOT to learn, and just make do with basic, streamlined operations. I'm not a subscriber at lynda.com, but I've found lots of free tuts online for other programs (garageband, imovie, etc) that I hope I can lean on.

Thanks so much for your input. If I end by giving up after a miserable battle, at least I know I'll be in good company! <3
Lynda.com is cool because you can pay for a one month membership and look at any tutorial you want during that month. When I did it, I think it was something like $25. I got a lot of use out of it, checking out Premiere, After Effects and Photoshop.
