Episode 5.15

Whoa. Jensen and Jared are handsome devils, aren't they? I always get distracted during new eps right after a hiatus, because it's like I FORGET how gorgeous they are. *_*

And now some less-happy thoughts about Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid )

I just. *sigh* I felt like Karen didn't get to be a person. She was just this symbol: "Bobby's Dead Wife." She's charming! She bakes! She hums! Is that homey? See how Bobby loves her?

I know they tried, by having her give a rationale for hiding her self-knoweldge from him, but it didn't satisfy, not for me.

I don't actually remember her much from DaLDoM. *pinkface*

I do remember Bobby and Dean and the same closet, tho. What's up with THAT metaphor? ;)

Right. Yes. The point of her was Bobby's pain. It's just such a weird portrayal of what someone would act like if 1) a loved one came back from the dead or 2) what you'd do IF you came back from the dead.

I felt the same way about the Dean-Sam reunion scene in Lazarus Rising. Not enough OMG YOU'RE ALLLLIIIIIIVVVVE. *g*

Hmmm, well. You know, I sort of agree, and I...sort of don't. I think it's not about ignorant bliss. It's about a wife seeing what has become of her husband, how he's aged and changed and been hurt, and deciding that for the little time she might have with him, she can try to give him a little quiet and comfort in her presence. I think the word she actually used was, peace. She recognized Bobby has had no peace of mind since he had to kill her, and I don't think it's that crazy to think someone who loves Bobby might want to bake him a pie and give him a hug. Some people are not actually wired to grab the shotgun and raise a little hell.

She was the first to recognize she was turning, too; it's possible she was always afraid time was ticking.

You know, you raise a good point. I didn't of it that way, thanks for pointing it out :D

I get what you mean, but although I did indeed phrase it as "raise a little hell," my main criticism is not that she wasn't automatically Tamara or Ellen. As a pie-baking, fairly schmoopy wife myself, my problem is not with nurturing per se. It's with the idea that Bobby's (BEn Edlund's) ideal loving wife spends her time in the kitchen, rather than with him, solving problems, helping him deal emotionally with her return, with their years apart. (Heck, if YOU came back from the dead, I wouldn't want you in the kitchen, I'd be spending every waking moment with you. And we've never even met in person! *g*) If my husband is helping defend the world against evil struggling with burdens, me sidelining myself and ignoring his problems and hiding what might be important information as a way of easing his troubled mind is not my own personal approach to a healthy relationship ( ... )

I likewise see your point, but I don't agree. I don't see what she was doing as sidelining herself and hiding important information; sidelining herself implies she had some active role to play here, which frankly, she didn't; she knew she was on borrowed time, and she used her time the way she probably used in her actual life, given the utter weirdness of the situation. After 20 years of her being dead and Bobby changing into someone she probably barely recognizes as her husband, they can't sit down and have anything remotely like a normal relationship along the lines of what they had before she died. He isn't the same, and hey, she's dead. So, you know. I think she made some choices, and I see them as valid. She knew when to cough up the message.

Oh hey look! Actual episode discussion! I had given that up for dead, too, but now here it is, like a zombie. :D (Maybe it will bake me a pie. *g*)

That would've been so awesome!
Specially since everyone BUT Bobby is technically a Zombie in this show.

Let's keep adding oddball strays to Team Free Will (rogue angel, zombie, maybe bring Lenore and Missouri and Ash back) until we practically have The Scoobies! :D

Oh, these are all good points. :-/ I got stuck on: why the hell is she wearing a waitress uniform? Like. I could accept wanting to wear something dated or wearing something with fashion trends marking the time that she died but she is dressed as a waitress. And is baking pies. What. The hell.

Man, when I come back from the dead, I'm so ordering Dominos and spending my all time "making up for lost time" with my husband, if you know what I mean, and I think you do.
