You know, the thing about all this? For the first time in like ages I am talking to people - co-workers, friends, my daughters friends mothers (sorry, can't even contemplate where the apostrophes go in that phrase) about the sense of hope this brings. That maybe, just for a while, we can live as caring, forgiving human beings rather than suspicious, fearful people.
Hubby and I were having D&M's (Deep and Meaningfuls) about how we seemed to have lived so long with governments that perpetuate fear, greed and selfishness and all these photos remind us that actually, fundamentally we want to be better, loving, caring people.
Thanks for sharing hun. Came just at the right time.
So much yes, honey. I really hope we can embrace the idea that we're all in this together, regardless of differences over the route we should travel to get there.
Made me smile HARD. I love how this election has bought people together in America. Even in the UK, it seems as though people are in lighter spirits and people are more willing to listen to what we have to say to each other, our opinions, our fears. Hope it continues :)
So far, there seems to be a surprising lack of bitterness on the losing side (at least toward the opposition, more directed at their own campaign) and lack of "so there" smugness among the winners. Not that it's completely absent, but better than I remember in many cycles. I hope it continues, too! :D
Angels in America has been in my mind as of late. When I posted that youtube vid of people singing The Star-Spangled Banner in Union Square in my lj a couple of days ago, I thought of Belize's line, "why do you think they put free so high that no one could hit it?"
