A note to non-Australians

Whenever I see you guys talk about "rooting for someone", I start snickering - much in the fashion of a teenage boy.

"Rooting"? Over here, it's the crudest way you could possibly discuss having sex.

Feel free to keep saying it (after all, it's a perfectly legitimate word for you guys) but please be aware of the effect it's having on Aussies...

Last time we were in Australia, hubby and I were driving somewhere when a gardening show came on the radio. The presenters started talking about 'rooting compound' then proceeded to break up in hysterical laughter.

Hubby had no clue why until I explained it.

Gah. I just started to type 'power rooted in darkness'. Then stared at it, and deleted.

'power founded in darkness' is just as good, right?

Darn your Australian linguistic difference.
