I love the bits about the relationship between Nick and Stephen in this and how Jenny tries to talk some sense into Nick and Connor feels a bit guilty about getting Cutter's attention.

And I also loved the scenes between Connor and his dad.

This has a really nice flavour of the s2 problems with Stephen and Nick. I do hope some good comes out of all this for them.

Interesting to see Connor and Mark opening up a bit with each other as well.

I know the focus of this story was always the Cutter-Connor relationship, but I was determined to do something with Cutter and Stephen as well. That was partly why it kept stalling in the earlier chapters, when I was trying to write some of the Cutter and Stephen stuff and keep it true to the feel of series 2.

This was going to be okay, Connor tried to convince himself as they worked. They were getting on better already. Granted, there were a few weird moments here and there, and he was rapidly learning which topics of conversation to avoid, but they were doing okay.

All he had to do now was convince everyone else of that.

Not to mention himself.

“I know Connor is stuck to him like glue right now, but I’m sure the novelty will wear off soon enough.”

“Maybe.”

“Probably sooner than you think,” Jenny said. “There are reasons why it’s not necessarily a good idea to work with family, especially parents.”

LOL! Jenny is observant and wise! Poor Cutter. He really is jealous and doesn't want to admit it.

“I dunno,” Connor said quietly. “I want to, obviously. But if she says no... How do you stay friends with someone who keeps rejecting you all the time

Thanks. I think a lot of them are kidding themselves about a lot of things right now - all except Jenny and Stephen, apparently! And yep, there's nothing more guaranteed to jinx a situation than saying 'it looks like a quiet one'!

I really enjoyed all the interactions here; Connor trying to find a way to communicate with his dad, Jenny being deadly perceptive and the insights into Nick and Stephen's relationship. Can't wait to see how things go pear-shaped!
