Doctor Who

Oooh, Doctor Who was rather good this week. The weeping angels are *way* scarier than the Daleks, and River Song is great.

Although, did they *really* have to put that bloody bright yellow 'over the rainbow - coming next' thing across the screen right on the epic finale scene? Grrrrrrr.

The weeping angels scare the ever-loving crap out of me. It makes me very nostalgic for the years I watched Dr Who from behind the sofa - literally ::g:: Even if these days I just watch it from behind my hands.

Scary, scary episode.

I think part of it is because I'm very, very squeamish about anything to do with eyes, so the thought of not blinking for an extented period of time just creeps the hell out of me. If I met a weeping angel I'd be dead within two seconds!

It's the eye thing for me, too, but also the fact that they only move when you're not watching them, and you can't turn away, even for a second, and it creeps me the hell out. I always find psychological terror ten times scarier than just gore, and there's something primeval about the whole thing, almost like you're mesmerised by them, knowing that if you look away for a second they'll strike.

And who doesn't have an atavistic fear of statues, the idea that they come to life when you're not looking? It's something, I think, that's hard wired into us because statues look like us but there's something intrinsically wrong with them, something that doesn't speak of life but of things much worse than that.

That or I'm a complete wuss, which is always possible ::g::

I love the angels, they're a fantastic bad guy.

But I had no idea that was a two-parter!

I had no idea it was a two-parter either. And I'd completely lost track of time as well so I was surprised when the end titles suddenly started.

I really enjoyed it this week (though I liked last week). Great to see them getting off Earth. And Iain Glen as a military cleric *swoon*

I know! I was hurling invective at the screen at that point. What a stupid thing to do! I really hate all that coming soon crap and talking over the credits and music.

I was kind of ambivalent about last week's ep, it's the only one so far that I've only watched once. But this week's was very definitely a good, tense ep. Also, River Song is great and I love her relationship with the Doctor and all the little hints.

Honestly, why couldn't they have waited just ten more seconds and done the 'coming next' thing over the titles, not over the episode itself? Especially over such an important scene with the Doctor delivering that line that I've been looking forward to ever since they played it at the end of the first ep.

River was fab :-) I think I liked her better this time than last. Thought the timey-wimey aspects make my head hurt worse than Primeval!

My thoughts exactly. It was on next anyway, are they that worried people might turn over? It was completely unnecessary.

Pretty much, yes, I think that's exactly why they do it. It didn't work, or course, I turned over for DW Confidential anyway, but that's not the point. Considering that DW is supposed to be one the BBCs 'flagship' series that gets them loads and loads of viewers, that's potentially a hell of a lot people that they've just pissed off.

There is no excuse for the Over the Rainbow banner!

Agreed it was a great ep and a brilliant cliffhanger!

I totally wasn't expecting a cliffhanger, that was a complete surprise.

You have to wonder what they're thinking when they put those banners across the screen when it's still in the middle of the bloody programme. Do they honestly think that the audience is going to switch the tv off as soon as the music starts?

Complain to the Beeb about the trailer! I thoroughly intend to do so. There has been much complaint already about 'squeezing' the credits to accommodate trailers, and this will really, really make people angry.

Good episode, though.

I might well do. The really annoying thing is I'd been looking forward to that 'never put me in a trap' speech ever since I first heard it on the series trailer, and that stupid banner thing completely distracted me so I missed the speech.

Yes, I hate the credit-crunching and yapping over the theme music. They could at least have waited till the creidts to put that stupid banner up, rather than spoiling the climax of the ep. If I was the Moff, I'd be bloody annoyed.
