Book bingo reviews - epic catchup!

Dec 30, 2018 13:59

I hope everyone had a very merry Christmas, and didn't eat too much food (I did! I was at my parents' for Christmas, and sometimes I think my mum still thinks I live like a student and need feeding up every time I go to visit!). I'll try to have a catch-up on everyone's recent posts in the next day or two, I've not been online since the Thursday ( Read more... )

Fab reviews! And yeah you can get a blackout. Just READ, no need to do anything else. Go for it!

I admit to loving 300, but I was only introduced to it because I was a huge Gerard Butler fan and he was playing Leonidas. Had he not been in it I doubt it would have crossed my radar. As it is, it holds a really special place in my heart for many many reasons. Mostly because I met some of my best friends at the premiere. My name is also on the special features disc in theUK 2-disc DVD.

39 Steps is a classic which I am yet to read. I can recall it being on our bookcase at home when I was a kid.

I really must watch the film of 300 when it's next on tv, I don't know why I haven't to be honest, especially as I have such an interest in the battle of Thermopylae. And Gerard Butler is indeed a good incentive to watch it, lol!

I'd think of it as comic book movie before historical movie to be honest. It's literalyl lifted straight from the graphic novel. Minimal dialogue ans highly stylized.

I want to read The Martian so bad I will have to move it up on my tbr list so I will read it in 2019.

Depending on how busy your New Year's Eve is I think you can do it. Good Luck!

The Martian is excellent (obviously I think so if I've read it four or five times, lol!), I hope you enjoy it if you get round to it this year.

They all sound absolutely brilliant!
Except maybe 300, I rather struggled with the movie in that respect *g*
You've done amazing! And well done for reading that book you've had for years, it sounded very interesting.

I do love the way that most of the bingo options are relevant for non-fiction as well fiction, I've managed to read so much non-fiction this year with the bingo.

Although strangely, not necessarily the non-fiction I had intended to read at the start of the year. I haven't got through very many of the huge pile of books about ancient Greece I have to read, but have been reading lots of popular science in 2018 instead. Oops! :-)

That's a good point, they do work for NF!

Maybe 2019 will be an Ancient Greek year for you :D

Fingers crossed! Although I already have a small pile of popular science demanding attention, and we're only a week into the year!

Thanks! It was more of mad rush at the end than I had intended, but book bingo certainly motivated me to read more, and to finally read some things that had been hanging around unread for *ages*. I'm hoping the same will happen this year as well :-)
