Writing and fandom round-up for 2012

Jan 01, 2013 20:24

2012 was an interesting one. This time last year I was extremely disappointed to have only written 48,675 words of fic in 2011, although that was based on stuff posted rather than stuff written, of which there was considerably more. So, was 2012 any better?

Yay for GIMP! It really is useful when writing is a struggle.
And placing in a writing contest is awesome. I hope you do well this year, too! *waves pompoms*
Really great fic count, considering. May 2013 be a more excellent year for you *hugs*

GIMP has been great fun, if an epic eater of time!

I;m certainly hoping to write more original stuff this yer as well as fanfic. We had a creative workshop at Writers' Club last night, and I came away with an idea for a short story set during the Back Death. I think this means I need to go to the library and do some research!

That's a great word count, and the metas were really interesting, so I'm looking forward to seeing more of that soon! :)

And I can't help it, whenever someone mentions GIMP, I just want to laugh... ;)

I do want to finish them, I just need to re-read what I've already done, and make time to rewatch the episodes again.

Lol! It is a rather unfortunate name, really ;-)

Happy New Year! :-)

I must admit, i found GIMP a godsend whenever my writing ground to a halt. And it's very satisfying being able to make your own icons and journal headers, not to mention pretty things for other people.

Have you got a drawing tablet? If not, I'd recommend you get one, even if it's only Bamboo Fun to start with. It's way easier to use than doing graphics with a mouse.

Yes, GIMP has been awesome when the bunnies really refused to co-operate this year. I haven't done any writing yet in 2013, but I did make a start on my next graphics project on New Years Day. Now that I'm uploading more stuff to my kindle, I thought I'd try branching out into making e-book covers for some of my favourite fics.

What's a drawing tablet? I don't even have a mouse, I'm using a laptop touchpad, but seem to get on okay with it - most of the time!

Something like this:

http://www.johnlewis.com/231625100/Product.aspx?s_kwcid=ppc_pla&tmad=c&tmcampid=73&pup_ptid={adwords_producttargetid}&pup_kw={keyword}&pup_c={adtype}

(There are cheaper ones, and more expensive ones, depending on your needs and budget. They make it much easier to do detailed work, so if you're getting more into graphics, it would definitely be worth your while trying one. Just google 'graphics drawing tablet'.

I make ebook covers too, though only in B&W, for my Kobo, it's good fun! :-)

Yay for placing in the writing contest, that's amazing! You definitely need to keep that up this year!
I've enjoyed all your fic, and I'm very pleased to have received the 2nd longest work :-) (Also, the slave!Becker was fab *looks pleading and hopeful*) Hope 2013 brings lots more stories from you!

Gimp is a tremendous time-eater but very enjoyable and you've done really well with all the graphics and icons

Thanks! I really ought to get writing something soon, I still have no words at all for 2013, although I do have the start of my next graphic. I'm still trying to read all the secret santa fics, though, and it's taking ages, so I'm not getting any writing done.

Shockingly I have nearly 2000 words. But that's mostly due to a bunny biting last night and very little to do with anything I should be doing!
I have a lot of secret santa fics to read still. I started off okay, and then it all went a bit pear shaped.

Oooh, go you! I have a couple of pup!verse ficlets that I fancy playing with, and (extremely surprisingly) an Abby/Becker that keeps poking me for attention.

I'm determined to read *all* the secret santas, though, and I'm working through them all chronologically, otherwise I'll lose which ones I've done and which I haven't. I've been reading for most of today, though, and it's getting to the stage where I can't decide whether to keep ploughing on with the fics, or whether to take a break and do some writing of my own now.

That said, I'm just up to the 30th now, so if I do carry on hopefully I'll have read yours before I go to bed tonight. Unless I get distracted by bunnies! :-)

I still can't believe how much meta you did! I really enjoyed what you posted so far. Yay for all the words and especially on placing in the contest! That's really fabulous.

And lol, considering fic still gets written for things that have had no new canon for decades, I think there's plenty of opportunity for you to write more Merlin fic. *g*

I had no idea the meta was going to be so big. Although that's probably a good thing, because if I had, I might not have started it at all!
