So...I have a question. Since I know the only people that are going to respond are probably Heather, Juliana and Ben, at least I know it won't be a tie. And live journal prominently displayed poll option on their front page, so I took advantage of it ( Read more... )

I think you're perfectly legit in wanting orientation time. I know the situation sucks, but I think you did the right thing.

Might be worth talking to her next time you see her?

I agree. You should at least get a refresher course on the monitors. In addition to that, it's all well and good that she wants to see her family, but it's selfish to ask another family person to cover you. What makes her Easter more important than yours? It's not like she didn't know way ahead of time that she was working Easter. Just sayin.. but then, I'm heartless and want Katie to have a good time and relax. :)

Chiming in late here (damn moving)...I don't think there's anything wrong with what you did. Sometimes people get the crappy shifts and they just have to learn to deal with that. You wanted to help, but couldn't because you weren't comfortable jumping into a position you haven't done in a while. There's nothing wrong with that.

Obviously a late-comer here, but I totally agree with everyone in saying you did nothing wrong in not covering her shift. It makes no sense to put someone in who costs the hospital more and also has not done the job for over 4 years. The other person does the monitoring all the time and costs the hospital less and was already scheduled to work that day. If she had wanted the day off she should have planned further ahead instead of complaining about it the day-of.
