My building, like many here in the fair City O' Fog, has a door entry system which calls a phone number - I can then buzz the door open using the hash pound octothorpe key. This is handy because even when I'm not home I can let people in. Or if I forget my keys then at least I don't have to wait around outside ( Read more... )

a decent phone system should be able to round robin through a group until something answers. admittedly that would be voicemails. so that would suck :)

it could certainly try the landline first. then your mobiles.

There's a bunch of tools for detecting when a Bluetooth device is in range and doing some action, like locking your desktop computer. You could use that to work out if there's someone home.
