I had never intended to write for the two as they seemed like such an obvious, but difficult pairing to write for and I usually tend to go for non-cannon couples in my fandom writing. However, I got a bunny from the prompts I was given and I just had to run with it.

Generally I find Talbot a deeply unsympathetic character but I was left with some sympathy for him by the end of this - very nice!

I think that's interesting because I believe he is actually one of the most sympathetic vampires in the series (show-wise, I haven't read the books)! Yes, there is that brutality and the sort of coldness that has become inherent in all of the supernatural creatures, but I also thing a lot of it has to do with his upbringing as well as the sort of viciousness that comes with being turned. I would point out that both Bill Compton and Jessica (who were both considered very upstanding citizens in their times and have taken human lovers) have both explicitly enjoyed getting their hands bloody and have shown an utter lack of caring for certain people now that they're vampires. Then you think about what sort of time Talbot was raised in (war, lore about gods and mortals slaughtering one another, and I'm sure he got taken to Rome to see the bloodsports which was a very suitable form of entertainment for all societies in that time like football), add in his Make's barbaric way of getting what he wants (as well as his total lack of sympathy,

Thanks for such a thoughtful reply. I did find the genuine mutual devotion between Talbot and Russell a redeeming aspect of his character and I think that's what you brought out so well in your story

Aww thank you so much! I'm glad that I could oblige your craving! I am actually really surprised by the lack of fic for them out there (maybe they're less pretty compared to other pairs?), seeing as they're totally cannongay for each other. I thought it was prudent to write something where they could be total fags together because their dynamic in the show always made me grin like an idiot.
