His singing reminded me of Rex Harrison (as I said) and then I found out/remembered that Lerner & Loewe who created Camelot (from The Once and Future King) were the same ones who developed My Fair Lady ... so that matches, doesn't it?
(And it matches that RSL played Henry Higgins back in San Diego ... and that he had the Robert Preston role in Music Man on Broadway. Heh.)
my parents had the Broadway cast album of My Fair Lady so I've heard Rex Harrison talk lyrics. Unlike Audrey Hepburn, Julie Andrews could do her own singing.
My parents had the album of My Fair Lady too! I wore that thing out listening to it. :) I'd forgotten Julie Andrews was in the Broadway version; I guess it makes sense that she was in the Broadway version of Camelot too. Since Lerner & Loewe created both My Fair Lady and Camelot.
My younger, poorer self would have been shocked at how much I paid to make the trip. But I don't spend much money on entertainment things generally (no nights out at the bars, no gambling, not even a lot of trips to the movie theater), so this was kind of me spending my whole entertainment budget at once.
