Oo, I like the different take. I can see how she'd be less than thrilled with Jacob and Miranda. I still think it's too bad we didn't hear at least a passing mention of Jacob's biotics training, even if it was mundane by Kaidan's standards. It would have been a nice contrast.
I hope everything works itself out for you. I'm hardly in any position to comment, except to say that maybe getting out of a toxic situation could ultimately be a very positive move.
Thanks! I wanted to use the reported bias against biotics the codex talks about yet we see few examples of, and since I'm ambivalent towards biotic abilities myself, it was only natural to channel it into Shepard. Of course Kaidan would go on to win her over with his drop dead sexiness patience and dedication. I imagine he did something heroic like taking a bullet for her or pulling a splinter from her hand or something.
I think Jacob was meant to cater to fans who wanted a "less vulnerable" Kaidan, but in having him refuse to talk about his past at all, he lost a lot of character depth. The ambiguity gives me more leash to run on with my story, but I agree. It would have been nice to see how the two differ in back story when in the games they both just kind of fall into the "loyal biotic boyfriend" category. :/
And thank you for the concern. I'm okay. Things like this tend to fall into place for me, so I'm not worried. ;)
Since my Shepard is a biotic too, I've had to settle for wedging the bias into side characters wherever I can. The potential conflict there fascinates me, just thinking about the real-world ramifications of having people with those capabilities.
It's too bad BioWare kind of flaked out so much on inter-party conversations. I would have loved for one of the squaddies to have something like an anti-biotic bias, just to add some more tension to the mix. (Or for that matter, fleshing out Jacob's issue with guns for hire) I really think they overdid biotics in ME2, it sucked some of the specialness out of them.
Anyway, I look forward to more Jacob story when you have the chance!
I like to think that my very renegade Shepard and Kaidan agreed on the fundamentals, but the gloves would come off in heated discussions about politics and social policy. She would do like the above, trying to bait Kaidan while he would sit back and let her make a fool of herself. It's a wonder they got together at all.
Especially our happy little band of marines. Every time I try to write something in the least bit scandalous, Ashley pops up with a vid recorder in hand. Then I go into a fit of giggles thinking about Kaidan and Shep coming across their home movies for sale on the extranet.
