Deco questions ^^

Hi everyone~  ^_^

I've been deco-ing for a little while now and I'd like to start making and possibly selling more things.  I have a few questions though, so I thought I would ask here :)

This  (DAP Alex Plus) is the caulk/silicone I have been using for my whipped cream.  I've been having some problems with cabochons/rhinestones/pearls falling out ( Read more... )

silicone, varnish, whipped cream, caulk, glue

HI! I use that same brand of Silicone also. I have never had an issue with it, but there could be a few factors that would cause your items to not stick:

1) Are you waiting too long to add your items? I usually have all my items ready to put on right after I apply the Silicone.
2) Are you applying your items straight on? I score the back of my items or put them in at an angle to add extra grip.
3)Is the surface that you're applying the Silicone to flexible? If you have a hard, clean surface, I usually score that also to keep all my work from falling off!

I decorated my flash drive doing all these and it's been through a rough time in my backpack..lol but it's still alive!!.. :-)

As for the E6000, I'm not sure if it will improve the bond strength, since it's a liquid as well, but it wouldn't hurt to try if you have some already. I hope this helped you!

Thanks! Actually, I put my items in very quickly.. the ones that usually come out are smaller pieces such as tiny pearls, rhinestones, etc. Also, sorry if I sound dumb (XD) but what do you mean by score? I usually stick my bigger pieces in at an angle and the surface I usually work on is hard plastic (ie. phone cases)

Oh! NO you don't sound dumb at all! Score is when you etch (cut) lines or grooves onto the back of your cabochon. So the back surface wont be so smooth. You can do this with a razor, sandpaper, a needle, or anything sharp or rough that would interrupt the smoothness of the back of the item you're trying to stick to the silicone. :-)
