Getting Paid to Watch Unaired TV Pilots

Apr 30, 2012 17:19

I recently got home from a vacation to sunny Las Vegas.

And while I don't usually talk about real life here in my journal, I thought I'd share my experience of previewing two unaired pilots and having the chance to give feedback on them.

You went to Las Vegas alone? Speaking as an almost hermit from the east coast, that is pretty awesome.

No comments on the shows though, I haven't even heard of them.

I don't have anyone in my life to go on vacations with, so if I want to go somewhere, I go by myself. I'm not sure if that's sad or neat. Probably a little of both.

The shows are unaired pilots, not necessarily picked up as a series. So they may be picked up as series for this fall, or they may never make it on the air.

I think it's pretty impressive actually. I can't even manage to go to the movies on my own.

Hey cool, you got to be a pilot tester! Very cool!

Did you enjoy Vegas? It's one of those places I hope to go someday for a short trip. :)

I did enjoy Vegas quite a bit, in spite of the fact that I'm not much of a drinker or a gambler. Lots of just random wandering around and looking at stuff. My feet hated me by the end of my trip.

I think the second show is based on a YA book series and it's a CW pilot.

I'm pretty sure I've heard of this project. Both shows don't sound all that great, to be honest. Hm, I think we're in for a less than exciting new tv show fall season...

And to think that I was excited that my second show was (vaguely) science fiction.

I find that, during any given fall TV season, I think that about 4-6 (of 30-40 shows) sound watchable, and usually only 1 or 2 make the cut.

Interesting. I think I'd enjoy doing that!

I hope you had a fun trip! I've only been to Vegas once when a friend was going for work and offered to share her free hotel room with me. I'm not a gambler, so I didn't know how much I'd enjoy it, but I was curious enough to give it a try for only the cost of a plane ticket. I was pleasantly surprised by how many fun, non-gambling options there were. Also, the whole town sort of felt like a cartoon and I appreciated its surreality :) Definitely a good time!

It was almost surprisingly fun for all of the non-gambling and drinking options.

And that's the story of how I went to Las Vegas and watched television.

Everything a vacation should be. ;) That's too funny, that they pay people to watch pilots and provide feedback. I bet there are professional pilot-watchers in that city.

One of them didn't allow anyone from Nevada, so maybe they're trying for just the tourists.
