On day 1 I went to Agrigento ... the Valley of the Temples

These first 2 pictures are especially for curiouswombat ... this is the national symbol (seen here on a 19th century light) ... hope she sees something similar! The second image is the earliest item found ... dated to the 7th century BC

Amazing! And did the Isle of Man symbol originate here?

Well they presume so, as it was apparently a locally made pot, that is well pre-BC.

Not exactly - the Sicilian one may well be earlier, but the Celtic and Viking versions developed separately.

What a fascinating place. Yes, the triskelion symbol turns up in a few other places, but it is in Sicily and our island that it really became so much part of the national identity.
