Did you ever read the Little House books by Laura Ingalls Wilder? There's one where she's, I think, a young teenager and would say things when she was angry that were not swear words - but her Ma told her one day, "Laura, don't swear." She thought that making angry exclamations was the same as swearing, at least in intent. I always found that thought-provoking.

I hadn't read the books, but saw the TV series.

Yes, I know Mum said when she was a teen she dropped a load of papers at work and said something simple like "blow" and aparently her boss said "You might as well say what you actually mean".

So, yes I know what you mean.
