Your mum and my mom were of an age I think. Mine grew up during the depression and was a young mother during WWII. Her family were farmers. They lived off the land. They canned from their garden to feed their large family. No written down recipes. My mom regretted she hadn't saved her mother's recipes after she passed away. I still make the same holiday meals my mom did. Her father made candy for holidays. I have a few recipes that when I make them I feel closer to her. They are time consuming so they are special for holidays.

I have Mum's recipe folders and use them a lot ... and love some of the notes she has added over the years.
I actually have my grandmother's cook book from pre-WWI, but although interesting to read I don't use it as a cook book.
