It's almost midnight, and I shouldn't be sitting up worrying about not having health insurance and what happens if I get sick. But I am. ;starts to simply write, 'leaves a pebble' and then remembers that you live in Maryland. It's not optimal, but the state of Maryland does offer health insurance. If you can't afford individual insurance you may qualify. One of my friends probably knows a lot more about it as she helped her sister get a plan - I get the feeling they're less picky than they imply on the site.

vvalkyri, you're a dear. However, this plan does in fact require monthly premiums - fairly high ones - and we are hardly in a position to pay for food, much less health insurance for me. It's designed for people who have been denied insurance for one reason or another, not those who can't pay for it. And no, I do not qualify for Medicaid.

Apologies. When C did this with her sister it had sounded like a fairly low cost thing, but she hadn't gone into specifics.

My mother used to carry a catastrophic policy for me (possibly montgomery county) but lapsed on payments and I couldn't reenroll as I am now a DC resident.

I can't afford low-cost health care. I haven't been able to fully pay my bills this month, and we don't have the money for groceries. Health care needs to be no cost or I can't have it, period, which really screws me if I get sick.
