Sam’s soul was still a ravaged thing, but he had always counted that smile as grace, only better. I adore the way you end stories - such a heartfelt punch to the emotions. Broken Sam trying - and failing - to fix himself felt very true here. And your Castiel voice and behaviour is chilling. I really want to see this as the season 7 opener!

I love how this doesn't pull any punches, not only with how messed up Sam is but with how Dean can be angry and frustrated with Sam's destructive coping mechanisms even while he understands them, that it acknowledges that to Dean it must feel like this isn't quite his Sam. And of course I also love that seeing the ways Dean is killing himself and needing to help gives Sam a stubborn, tenuous ability to bring himself back. And the creepy benign-yet-not God!Cas is really effective, too.

My reaction in one word: YES.

Everything just felt *right* about it. Sam checking out constantly and finding progressively more destructive ways to self-medicate something that can't be medicated...but realizing Dean needs him brings him back. Of course it is. And Dean doing his best to deal with a Sam that isn't quite right. It hurts but it's so right.
